The thread on the History Channel got me thinking. Remember when these channels were upscale and actually had true quality on them?

WTF happened? Money, I know. But seriously they've become pretty funny in a sad sort of way (not saying there aren't some guilty pleasures on them).

And, yeah, how should they be re-named to reflect their content.

A & E . . instead of "Arts and Entertainent" is it now "Assholes and Emptyheaded"?

And Bravo used to have arts, drama and independent film. I know NBC bought it in the early 00's so that explains a lot.

At one time the content of these channels made me think PBS might have become unnecessary. It really looked like there was support on pay channels for the best things PBS brought us. Really sad that the crap on these channels is what people truly want.

You could easily add The Learning Channel (TLC) to your inglorious list. Programmers and producers provide what viewers demand and its evident American TV viewers are demanding this crap.

far worse than A&E and The Discovery Channel.

Fwiw.. I still find some things on those two entertaining.

Why would AMC be worried about A&E?
