I’ve watched this year’s NBA and NHL playoffs on TNT via Max. If they take those off, I’m definitely not paying for ANOTHER streaming service that’s just TNT/CNN stuff.

They wouldn't have had the NBA anymore anyway. Besides the NHL playoffs and some occasional team USA soccer, I'm not sure what the hell TNT brings as a streamer.

They have March Madness also, but your point is still valid. ESPN/Disney has been wanting NCAA basketball playoffs badly for a while. I wonder if this is a way for ESPN to finally get a deal done, especially with their new streaming app coming. They would get Inside the NBA too.

Is there going to be a ceasing of the shared content on the streaming service

Looks like no. The cable networks company will still own a share of the Warner and HBO company, keeping them tied together for now.

This will still make the TV networks easier to sell, but there isn't a complete severing of the two branches.

I imagine they're just spinning them off to get rid of them.

They are dumping their debt with them.
