Can we talk about how fun that intro is with “call on me” playing

The opening scene was really good. Totally unexpected.

Great movie. War is hell.

There were a few places in Iraq the US never really had control. Ramadi absolutely was one of those places. You could ride around in daylight but when the sun goes down you better have a plan. Mosul was the same way, maybe worse.

I posted this in another thread but, low impact, counter insurgency warfare is boring for the wider public. No big battles, no Audie Murphy, no gallant charges, and it looks like from the outside a disorganized mess....boring for the public. I think the publics perception about Iraq and Afghanistan is well, "it couldnt have been that bad not that many casualties".

Movies like this are showing the wider world just how violent and bloody these "low impact" wars are for the people doing the fighting.

Saw it tonight. Was really intense. Definitely not a “Hollywood” war movie.

Brought back old bitter feelings of the Iraq War.

This was my big takeaway. How boring it all really is until the shite inevitably hits the fan and it’s just chaos and then ends just as abruptly as it began.

Also really hit home when they were waiting for the Bradley and it was only 6 minutes out how long that actually felt for me in the theater. Imagine it felt like an eternity for those men

And surreal.

“Hey let’s pick it up, we get these doors kicked in down to the end of the block we are done. I think we have enough time to make it to the big DFAC for steak and lobster night”.
