The Patriot (although I hate it) can be enjoyed if you view it in the same vein as a Death Wish movie or something like that - unintentional, hilariously over the top action scenes. The sad thing is there are posters here who view it as a successful period piece drama like Braveheart which it fails miserably in trying to emulate.

This. And also, Braveheart hasn't aged all that well.

I actually really don't like Braveheart very much at all. The battle scenes are still good, and there are some good elements. I just find the depiction of "freedom" to be cloying, and as such the entire narrative is difficult for me to swallow.

Well put. Also, it's just sort of bizarre how the story was made up despite the fact that the real The Bruce story is very compelling in its own right.

I know you're being facetious, but when you present something as "based/inspired by a true story", then I do believe quality tracks with how closely the source material is adhered to. This is because, presumably, when you go through the effort of making a movie about something, it's because it was compelling in the first place!

Haven't read the whole thread but if anyone said Starship Troopers, you can eat a bag of dicks.

Troopers is a great film and shouldn't be within a mile of this thread.

I remember only a few critics giving To the Wonder positive reviews with Roger Ebert being one of them. It was his last review before he passed. For me it's a top 3 Malick film.
