You realize that the character lived on earth before she was on the Nostromo, right? That mission was like 2 years long. It's more than plausible that she would have had a daughter... To the OP, yes and it adds a lot to the movie.

I don't know, I just think it adds to ripley's bond with newt and it's fitting really because they've bost lost their families and found each other.

shes a loner cat lady who works on big rigs in space. her having a daughter was inconsequential. it feels silly, and it was cut. no big deal.

better yet, why cut the scene where Newt's parents find the spaceship from the first movie, and presumably a queen facehugger gets her dad.

I know that Weaver was upset they cut that scene out, and maybe Cameron too.
they even cut the Sentry guns scene out, and it was bad arse.
the entire lenght of this movie should have been in the theatres. guess they were scared of it running too long...

I think that 20th Century Fox made the decision, but I prefer the extended cut. The first time I saw it was on CBS when it was first shown on network TV around 1990. I didn't know about, so it was a pleasant surprise.

it helped the story in my opinion. to knew she had one and missed out on so much because of this situation. Aliens was about the queen. mother..and then there is newt. sorta becomes her daughter figure.
