See, I had a thread about Jacob's Ladder on here about 8 or so months ago, and I bought it and was disappointed that it wasn't as mind-frickish as I thought it would be.

Men Behind the Sun

Watched this over the weekend. It was actually better than I thought it would be. The story it self is kinda fricked up, but once you get past the unintentional (I assume) hilarity of the dubbed over voices, it's a decent flick.

Makes you think about how fricked up it was that shite like that actually happened.

Hard Candy and Teeth also came in, but I haven't watched them yet. Maybe one night this week/weekend.

Anybody else seen MBtS? Thoughts?

I heard it was not bad though.

Obviously the vagina dentata thing is fricked, but was the movie a bad movie? Was it at least somewhat enjoyable?

Well it was low budget. I got through it alright. Some parts are a little dry and there is some bad acting thrown in there as well. But yes, it was somewhat enjoyable.

Pretty crappy movie. Horrible acting.

The most disturbing films to me have no mutants and few special effects, just people doing horrific things as normal behavior.

The Rivers Edge, a clique of teens covers up the murder of one of their own by one of their own.

Lord of the Flies, all you need to know about children.

I wouldn't say Blue Velvet is all that disturbing.
I watched it the other night. I'm easily freaked out and didnt think it was really disturbing.

Dennis Hopper was over the top annoying though

eta: I saw one movie 2000 Maniacs. It's from the 60's. That movie was pretty effed up. The same people made another show about a wig shop. It was pretty weird too

I too thought it was pretty dumb, but kept watching it due to the mention of it on here.

Watched Cannibal Holocaust, Bully, and Ken Park in the last week or so. (spoilers)

Ken Park was pretty bad. And whoever said that Harmony Korine and Larry Clark are pedophiles couldn't have been more correct. Seemed like Larry Clark basically just set out to make a teen porn flick. Those same story lines (about how kids' lives suck sometimes) could have been tackled without being so graphic. But whatever. All that aside, it was just boring.

Bully I finished up last night. It was decent. I never knew Nick Stahl was in it. That movie just goes to show how stupid kids are..none of them could keep their mouths closed. All in all, I enjoyed it.

Cannibal Holocaust was actually much better than I was expecting (but I wasn't expecting much). I'm not sure what I was expecting (I guess just a straight up gross-out fest..?), but it was actually a better story than I had originally thought just reading about it and shite. It was pretty sick at times, but really wasn't as "disturbing" as I thought it would be either. I don't know if it was because I expected worse, or because I am kinda desensitized to things, or what...but it wasn't as gruesome as I thought it would be. The worst thing was the turtle part, and even that wasn't too bad. Though at one point at the end I did think they were about to impale the chick with a stake (up her vagina and out her mouth). But they didn't. The actions toward the cannibals were obviously disturbing ("cocky white man brandishes his power over weaker culture"), but it fit within the frame of the movie/plot.

Cocomo,

What was the worst scene IYO

I just watched it recently and to me the worst scene was when the tribesmen raped his wife with the stone and then killed her with it.

I agree though, I wasn't nearly as disturbed as I expected to be.

You do know that the monkey, turtle, and whatever other animal they killed were all real?

I dunno. The turtle scene was just so graphic. But they did it to eat. One scene that stands out to me was when they first get to the tribe, and they try to mass-execute them by shooting at them and trapping them in the hut and burning it down...and to top it off, the dude and the chick have sex on top of the ashes.

The one where they yank the baby out and bury it in the mud was pretty weird too.

Yeah.

I guess also just the ideas behind the whole thing. Like the dude's girlfriend gets taken by the tribe, raped, and stoned to death, and all he can think about is catching it on camera. It's like the only thing important to them was thinking of crazy shite, and getting it all on camera. It was irrelevant that their good friends (or girlfriend) were in serious danger of losing their lives. That's pretty fricked up.

Yeah, I dont remember the baby scene too well that you mentioned, and I had forgot about burning the people.

They were definitely way too interested in filming.

I thought it was wierd at the end that the Execs sat through the entire film before they said to have it burned.

True, but that was one of the things I liked about it. That bitch chick was SO interested in getting the footage out to the public, and for no other reason than because it was sensationalistic in nature. She didn't care what was on it. Until she saw it for herself and saw how fricked up it was.

I thought it was a decent take on how we, as Americans, crave entertainment so badly that we don't really give a shite what the content is, as long as we are entertained by it.

Exactly.

The fricked up thing to me though, is that I can sit through something like CH and actually not be phased by it all that much. The rape scenes, the killing, the animal killings, etc. that they show in that movie is fricked up, no doubt. But what disturbs me (also creeps me out) 100 times worse is something like this scene from The Shining...or the twin dead girls scene.

It's crazy that shite like that affects me, but shite like CH really doesn't.
