Thirty Seconds over Tokyo is noted for its historical accuracy. Its use of actual war footage of the bombing (recorded during the mission) helped earn the film an Academy Award for special effects. Although the actual raid did little damage, it bolstered U.S. morale and caused the Japanese to shift precious resources to air defense.

I grew up hunting a Vietnam vet that was good friends with my dad. He always said that for him and his experience over there the movie that best encompassed it was The Siege or Firebase Gloria.

Damn good movie by the way.

No movie has yet to capture the total visceral fear of combat. The adrenaline dump is hard to depict.

This is the truth right here. Unless experience hard to understand.

quote:

1. Hamburger Hill, accurate depiction of daily life, language and the fear and FRUSTRATION of extended fighting.

2. Platoon, aside from the politics of Oliver Stone, it nailed the daily grind and the final assault made me cringe with flashbacks.

3. Thin Red Line, captured the fear and dread of the inner person. Beautiful movie. Elias Koteas and Sean Penn stole the movie but Ben Chapman ripped my heart out. Must see.

Heard this from many vets of the war.

4. Blackhawk Down, really accurate depiction of young men fighting for first time in a no-win situation. Special effects among best ever.

shite show from the start with the intel. The movie did a great job of emulating what it was like in the Mog, especially with Mog mile.

quote:

5. Forrest Gump, the ambush scene brought tears to my eyes. They nailed the tracers, explosions and cries of the wounded. The look on his face when he found Bubba was timeless.

From start to the end the ambush scene does a great job of showing the roller coaster effect it had and does to those in that situation.

Saving Pvt. Ryan — first 20 minutes and last 20 minutes were riveting

TBH the first 20 minutes or the beginning caught me off guard in the theater. I saw WWII vets get up and leave.

Jarhead with the scenes of downtime were very accurate for the Gulf War.

By the way Semper Fi

The tanks used throughout the movie are the opposite of accurate.

Unfortunate as it shouldn't have been that difficult to use real Shermans as there were plenty operable yet in 1970. Spain, where the film's battle scenes were filmed, had plenty of surplus US equipment.

The German tanks would have been more difficult.
