Tomb Raider's problem goes beyond that it's just a poor Indiana Jones ripoff (Spoilers)

There are scenes that in the movie that are almost beat for beat ripoffs of Raiders of the Lost Ark, and especially the Last Crusade. The whole "father's notebook full of secret research that leads the bad guys directly to the artifact" thing is lifted directly, and then add in the idea that the kid brought it directly to the bad guys when dad thought it was far away or destroyed is even worse.

Then there's the tomb sequence that is just an absolute ripoff of Last Crusade's finale with the floor tiles, the gorge, the puzzles, etc etc.

But the films problems go beyond just that (I actually think the filmmakers were being so on the nose to maybe give the audience and Indy fans a little nod)

The problem with a 1980s Indiana Jones ripoff is just that... You Don't have Harrison Ford and Spielberg in their primes!

Vikander is fine (the grunting did become a bit over the top though), but she lacks what made Raiders so great. SHe doesn't have the incredible charisma as peak Harrison Ford...and honestly I don't if anybody does.

He was so perfect for that part and maybe the biggest movie star in the world at the time probably aided by the 2 biggest filmmakers in the world at the time, Spielberg and Lucas... old friends worked together on the project.

The setting of 1930s and the Nazis and based in reality, holy items that everyone knew about (not made up stuff about a zombie Apocalypse host carrier in ancient Japan) could really capture the wonderment of the audience better too.

I don't know if anybody can pull off what the original Indiana Jones films did, especially now with so much CGI that would be involved and really take away from the viewing experience.

The only actor I can even think of today who could conjure some of that Ford/Indy spark would be Chris Pratt.

He's essentially playing a funnier Han Solo in the Guardians movies and he's really kind of playing Indiana Jones in Jurrasic World. He has the stature, the humor, and most of all, the on screen charisma needed to pull off that part.

But they'll make another Tomb Raider, clearly from the ending one more true to the video game with the money and the guns, etc, and then someone else will try to remake it again about 15 yrs, as the endless cycle continues.

You actually wasted time writing this extensive review for a movie like Tomb Raider?

I took my kids to see it and they liked it, especially the 11 year old. It was a good Spring Break adventure movie, especially at matinee prices.

The tomb puzzle about a praying man would survive ( or whatever the exact phrase was) immediately reminded me of the Indiana Jones puzzle involving a “penitent man.”

It was a decent movie. Better made than the Jolie ones. Less campy at least.

I will say this, Alicia Verklander did an OK job but whatever sound editor let her little repetitive squeal make it to the final cut needs to be fired.

Were you actually expecting it to be good or something? Is that the reason for the review? Pretty sure the rest of us knew it would be pretty bad. Trailers looked awful and they are supposed to make you want to see the movie.

It's based on a video game that's based on Indiana Jones. Not sure what you were expecting. It was decent for what was and I'd like to grate cheese on Alicia Vikander's abs.

Have you even played the new games? The movie was incredibly true to them.

Generic action movie that is basically a paint by numbers rip off of Indiana Jones and without the joy of big titties like old school Laura.
