I saw an article that said an announcement was made on the ship to not take phones near the production and to pretty much leave them alone. Sounds like someone twisted that story into this.

That's pretty damn standard on ANY professional television,commercial or movie set for non Starring role actors. It is common etiquette and most often completely disallowed (You'll sign an NDA a lot of times too.) Hell those little yellow signs around Atlanta, New Orleans, San Diego, etc don't even have the real names of the shows/movies that are filming on them.
