This was better than expected. I put it up there with Rise. The last two films just seemed to drone on and on.
The CGI apes in this one were fantastic. I could watch that orangutan speak for two hours. Beautifully "shot" film.
I was hoping this would be a stand-alone story, because I'd rather see three stories in this trilogy than one dragged out tale. And it did have a pretty tight ending, but the "death" of Rakka is definitely a set-up for him to return in the next two films, with his herd of educated echos or his integrated tribe of humans and apes. Then the tacked on epilogue that tells us that we're back in the same war that we had in the previous two ape movies.
The Eagle Clan gave it an Edgar Rice Burroughs feel. I'm hoping we get to see a Wolf Clan or Lion Clan or some other super-specialized tribe of apes.
Lots of heavy-handed foreshadowing throughout, but it was a fun watch.
I like that they gave a meta jab at Matt Reeves for his silly name drops with, "We name them all Nova" joke.

Distractingly hot for the role she was playing.
Let’s you know you’re still a movie critic and a man.

I thought these humans were trying to be a more realistic version of the mutants in Beneath the Planet of the Apes or at least a link to them. I’m interested to see what they do with them in the next one.

I’m excited to see where this one goes. I can see the next movie showing the humans organizing and getting a plan together while the apes somehow get a sense of pending war and their own preparations. Then the 3rd movie in this trilogy is full on war

After 300 years, the intelligent humans should have been able to rebuild their numbers to some degree

Just another cash-grab meant to bank off the success of the 2011 film.

Well it worked. They grabbed enough cash ($400m) to continue the series.
