‘Thirtysomething’ Sequel Series being pitched by Marshall Herskovitz, Ed Zwick

quote:

Written by thirtysomething creators Herskovitz and Zwick and to be directed by Zwick, I hear the followup series revolves around the children of the characters in the original show, which are now 30-something themselves. I hear the intention is for original cast members to reprise their roles but no one is set yet and there have been no formal talks.
quote:

Thirtysomething was a seminal series that captured the angst of the baby boomer generation and its struggles with real-life issues such as career, relationships, marriage, having kids and parenting. It centered around Michael Steadman (Ken Olin), his stay-at-home wife Hope Murdoch (Mel Harris) and their baby Janie. Melanie Mayron, Timothy Busfield, Patricia Wettig, Peter Horton and Polly Draper also starred in the series, which won 13 Primetime Emmy Awards, out of 41 nominations, and two Golden Globe Awards over the course of its four-season run.

ETA: 'Thirtysomething' Sequel With Original Cast Gets ABC Pilot Pickup
quote:

The network has handed out a pilot order for a sequel — called Thirtysomething(else) — to its former late '80s/early '90s family drama, featuring many of the show's original cast. The pickup arrives more than three months after producers MGM Television first shopped the project to potential buyers.
quote:

The stars from the original series — Ken Olin, Mel Harris, Timothy Busfield and Patricia Wettig — will reprise their roles in the sequel. Herskovitz and Zwick will co-write the script and executive produce, with the latter set to direct the pilot.

Miles Drentell was one of the best TV characters of the late 80's.

She fooled around with J.D. Souther's character behind Michael's back. She's dead to me.

Regardless if you liked the show or not (I remember it being pretty loathsome melodrama bullshite) but there is no doubt there was a certain magic and nostalgia that worked very well with Boomer characters facing adulthood in the 80s.
Big Chill I'd say kicked it off, but it also was a primary theme in The wonder Years and Field of Dreams.

The generation now that in their 30s had none of that romanticism or nostalgia. In fact, it's actually pretty despicable, and I'm one of them.

I remember it, but no specifics on how it ended. The theme was pretty memorable though.

That's what the world needs... More Timothy fricking Busfield...

He falls short of the slapability standard set by Matthew Lillard, but comes damned near close.

Hated that show. I was a rebellious teenager in the late 80's and that show to me was like prog rock to a punk kid in the 70's.
