The Orville gets an early season 2 renewal
quote:

A week after the CBS All Access streaming service gave a very early season 2 renewal to Star Trek: Discovery, the Fox dramedy inspired by Trek becomes the first broadcast series of the fall to get a second season pickup. So far this season, Fox’s sci-fi series has been averaging 6.7 million viewers and a 2.1 rating among adults 18-49 on Thursday nights. That might not sound like very much, but in a fall where so many new shows have struggled, it’s enough to rank Orville as the second highest-rated new hour-long show of the fall behind ABC’s The Good Doctor. Plus, Orville is keeping Fox alive in what’s long been a very tough timeslot for the network.

The Orville has been a very pleasant surprise. What I'm sure many thought would be some cheesy comedy spoof has turned into a pretty entertaining show.

The last episode was legitimately creepy and (unintentionally by McFarlane) a case study in why a pure democracy fails.

There was nothing unintentional about it. The whole premise was bashing groupthink. He is hugging the middle with his jabs at both the left and right. Pretty refreshing seeing it

Wow. Best news I’ve heard today. I’m looking forward to seeing what they can do with this show.

So the two new shows I watch are the highest rated. That's good. I don't like the good doctor as much as the wife does.

Fantastic. It was horrendously marketed, but word of mouth is saving it.

People are giving MacFarlane way too much credit. "He's bashing groupthink, he's exposing the faults of a true democracy, he's exposing the dangers of recording devices..."

It's another Star Trek episode where people are punished for societal reasoning gone too far. They did it repeatedly with computer generated war casualties, predetermined death dates, politically arranged marriages... MacFarlane just did it with the current twist of social media.
