So Gabe showed up 2 episodes before the first mention of the Strangler, and then they mention the Strangler a bunch of times since then.
Also, take into account Gabe's general suckiness as a character, his power trips, his obsession with horror movies, the weird stuff in his house like sea horse aphrodisiac, and his unhinging when Erin dumped him, and I think we have our Strangler.
