Probably the most over exaggerated of the overrated in fact he is underated because I dont know of anyone who has him rated at all!

If that makes any sense.

Damon has some good stuff too. Cage has some good stuff, Keanu has some good stuff too.

The most overated financially I believe is Drew Barrymore.

Hands down.

Cage is a tremendous actor with horrible taste in scripts. Not overrated at all.

I'll submit an an actor that is so overrated that no one will agree with me.

Jack Nicholson

It's so ingrained in all of us to respect this man as a great actor that you're all going "Wtf?" and preparing to list all the fantastic performances in his defense.

As you do so, take a minute and think about what makes one of those performance so daring and different than any of the others. Tough to do isn't it? That's because he has played almost the exact same character in every movie he has ever done.

I completely disagree with this.

He's not nearly as varied as Daniel Day Lewis or Gary Oldman, but he's not a Jack Nicholson one trick pony either.

Penn had absolutely no business winning an Oscar for Mystic River and Milk was nothing more than a political pick. Kingsley, Murray, and even Depp put on better performances that year than Penn did in Mystic River and in 08 Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler was hands down the best over Penn in Milk.

This actually isnt a big deal for me. People say that about Hanks, Costner, and Denzel amoung others. If I like who they are, like the role and the movie I dont have a problem with it. When Im enjoying a flick like "Hoffa" I really dont care if Nicholson could play a ballerina in another movie.

Ive never seen one of these guys ruin what could be a good movie.

A guy like Christian Bale with his voice changing and extensive role research can make some movies unwatchable.

His part in Brooklyn's Finest was probably the best thing I've ever seen him do.

Haven't watched it yet for me his best performance was American Gigolo very underrated thriller.

I'd say his work in the late 70s & early 80s is underrated.

Looking For Mr. Goodbar
Days of Heaven(great movie)
American Gigolo
Breathless
The Cotton Club

I like all those movies and even An Officer and a Gentleman to a lesser extent.

Sure I can.

The lines and the motivations may be slightly different but Warren Schmidt is basically an amalgam of Melvin Udall, RP McMurphy, and George Hanson.

Nicholson is basically an anti-Cage. He picks great scripts but delivers the same performance for all of them.
