Wire filmed on location, just a different type of show.
Homeland is arguably better for a lot of people, no dispute.
I'm saying it's a higher quality show. Downton Abbey is high quality and it bores me to tears.

Newsroom has all the potential to be good but its so left wing biased i cant take it seriously
so it's an accurate portrayal?
Newsroom is good, not as good as Homeland though

Newsroom has WAY more problems than being left-leaning.

Homeland gets a lot of hype because it's awesome.
Brody's character and how he is dealt with is a complete failure. "Hey, POW comes back, let's make him an astronaut and send him to Mars." <-- makes just about as much sense as the shite they have him doing - whether it's terrorism, politics, personal life, anything.
People like the show, no problem. I still watch it myself. But I think it's more annoying than awesome.
About Newsroom, I assumed it won Emmys because I thought critics/voters loved over the top leftist political drivel?!? My mistake. At it's core, Newsroom isn't terrible, but I want to bang my head against a wall anytime one character speaks to another character. The dialogue flows as if it was written by George Lucas and Dennis Miller's lovechild.
Btw, GoT is awesome and way above and beyond anything in Homeland or Newsroom.

Newsroom is the most pretentious crap on TV.
But Homeland can be a bit over the top. There is no way in hell the CIA would have sent a former agent who just under went electric shock therapy and has lithium coursing through her veins out on a field operation. It never would have happened.

Homeland has fricking David harewood and the guy from Pete and Pete.
What guy are you talking about? Lewis? Is that ginger hate?

Completely unnatural dialogue. Every character speaks as though they are reading off a script. Every character talks too much. It's like watching Six Degrees of Separation without the wit and flow. You have an intern, assistant, associate producer who thought LOL meant Lots of Love or similar spouting obscure references every 3rd sentence. Like I said, George Lucas + Dennis Miller = Newsroom dialogue.

Of an actual newsroom, yes.
however, their point was to be a newsroom that holds the left and right accountable for their shite, and report actual news. However, all they do is bash the right, and their writers are so inept, they can't even comprehend the conservative position on topics to come up with a good "gotcha" moment. Hopefully the new writing staff will be better this season. (probably not).

I can suspend my disbelief, but seriously?

To be fair, the time jump is a little bit longer than that. I do agree that the ascension into politics in general is odd, but since the VP is clearly Brody's main target they have to keep him involved with the show.

quote:How so? The daughter was 16 at end of S1 and 16 at beginning of S2. In that span he became a congressman - completely glossed over - and she was treated as being the exact same.

Regardless of any of that...
This guy is running trivial errands for his terrorist network - move a guy to a safehouse, we have no one else to do this Mr. Could Be Vice President of the US.
Also, so many people would be scrutinizing his entire return to the US - 1) ex POW in islamic hands, 2) Tom Walker 3) Congressman 4) potentially on ticket as VP
They - NSA, CIA, SS, FBI - would know every aspect of his life. Morena Baccarin screwing Mike. Brody screwing crazy CIA agent.
Instead, all of that shite is glossed over. Hits one episode then disappears.
After being debriefed following captivity, once he hit US soil, he would be watched closely. Every aspect of his life - even while captive - would be vetted and known. Let alone a 2 hour road trip with a supposedly outed sympathizer that the show portrays as to be minutes away from being captured.
