I followed the link to the Forbes article, and the creator talked about how two female characters in the 90's comics wore the mask. Nothing will ever live up to the original, but since anybody (or dog) can wear the mask, I can't really complain about him trying to make another movie with a female lead character.

Weird thing is that this would actually be in line with the Mask comic, as opposed to the original movie.
The nature of The Mask is that it transforms anyone who tries to wear it. In fact, Stanley Ipkiss ended up getting killed by his girlfriend, wearing the mask, at the end of the first miniseries.
Doesn’t mean they won’t turn it into a complete and utter clusterfrick, though, as the main appeal of the first movie was Jim Carrey being a living Tex Avery cartoon
