The Long Walk (2025) - now available on demand (spoilers)

I’ve been close to renting this one for a few days now and last night when I went to do it, I noticed it was free (if you have Starz). So I started it last night and finished it this morning.
Man, this movie is pretty bad. But I actually did kinda like it. The acting is horrible (and the accents are even worse
) and the actions of the characters rarely make any sense whatsoever.
The accent on the Asian kid was one of the funniest things ever. And the Baton Rouge kid was pretty bad too. And the black mushmouth dude’s accent was just…..weird and awkward.
I liked the rules of the walk. Not sure I fully buy into sleeping while walking nonstop. But at least they addressed it and sleepwalking is a real thing so I can buy it well enough.
I do wish we’d have gotten at least a little more backstory as to how bad things are that would make people want to leave their families and voluntarily die.
The end was a little strange in that the mushmouth dude was surrounded by a large crowd and then turns around and is alone. And there is zero chance those soldiers give him a loaded weapon.
But I get what they were going for, and that he wanted to do it for Ray.
But all that being said, I did like it. I think I maybe just like the premise more than anything, so while the execution was poor, the idea was cool so I dug it.
Curious to see what other people thought about it.

I thought it was good. Not finished the book but so far, relatively in line other than they don’t emphasize the spectacle of it. The millions of people that line up to watch them suffer and how it affects the walkers. I think the book says after a certain point, there are crowds 30 people deep watching them. It’s the “national pastime.” Watching them die is a catharsis for society. Which is why it’s so fricked up
In the book at least, it’s almost the exact same from a day to day standpoint. Same quality of life. Just a totalitarian government structure though. Secret police, a Che like figure (Mark Hamil’s character) being a national hero. People sign up to do it for multiple reasons, either from them being hopeless, looking for the hero workship that’s shown for them, or a sense of duty.

-12/10 for me.
What an absolutely moronic premise.

I’ve read the book at least a half dozen times over the last 25 years. Still haven’t seen the movie and given than so much of the book is internal and basic dialog while walking not really sure how it would make an overly compelling movie after the first few series of 3 strikes.
I’m assuming to fill with a lot of backstory?

Very little backstory in the movie. It’s almost entirely walk focused. They also don’t focus much on character’s backstories. More on the camaraderie that gets built. Almost like stand by me in a way.
Also, very well acted. Phillip Seymour Hoffman’s son is the main character FWIW

I don’t regret watching it but it’s fairly forgettable. The main two guys did a pretty good job with a meh script.
Glad I waited until it was $6 to rent

I really liked it. It was a brutal film. It's about people walking the whole time yet I never felt bored. I thought it was very well made.

Mark Hamil might be the worst actor ever. Since he can’t act he overacts every character. That accent was so bad. He is a cringy dude.

Was looking forward to the movie, in the end it annoyed me. Just way too whiny of dialogue the entire time. It was like if a real housewives cast got an entire movie to talk.
