I thought it was Luke but the linked article that explained the trailer listed him as Resistance pilot Poe Dameron who Kylo Ren was possibly torturing.

I like the training question brought up with regard to Finn. With regard to Luke's late training, I think Obi-Wan's initial plan was to give Luke some training starting from infancy, but then those plans were dashed when Owen took a disliking to Obi-Wan and made him stay away. Obi-Wan seems to allude to such a scenario when he mentions that Anakin would have wanted Luke to have his lightsaber, but Owen "wouldn't allow it." Obi-Wan had clearly talked to Owen about exposing Luke to this stuff, but was rebuffed.

So when Luke came to Dagobah, with almost zero Jedi training under his belt, and an emotional volatility scarily reminiscent of Anakin's, Yoda briefly decided that it was too dangerous. He would rather leave the fate of the galaxy in the hands of the non-Force-sensitive resistance than risk creating another, even more powerful Darth Vader. But of course this was just a token display of reluctance; obviously Luke was the best hope for the galaxy, no matter the risk inherent in his training. And so Yoda was easily swayed by Obi-Wan into taking Luke on as a student.

Repost on Sith thing to help..

Phantom Menace in movie - Dark Lord of the Sith (Vader) ?

Star-Lord, published by Marvel Comics in 1973 featured a villain named Rruothk'ar, who was described as a "Sith-Lord".

I'm trying to remember the first mention of Sith in the original movies but to be honest, I'm drawing a blank. I remember the term Dark Lord of the Sith from when I was a kid but I'm thinking that originated in one of the books maybe.

Vader was called a Sith in the novels, and the term was all over toys, comics, ect., but like "ewok", it was never mentioned in the films.

But Dooku was a jedi prior to becoming a Sith. He was Qui Gon's master.

In all 3 scripts (mostly ANH and ESB) Vader is referred to as Lord of the Sith, and "the Siths" is used, but never in dialog.

OK, good deal. The more I thought about it, the more I suspected it had to be in the books that I first came across the term "Sith".

One thing though, Vader was not mentioned in the prequels until Sidious gave him the title in Revenge of the Sith.

True. What we were talking about was who all had been an apprentice to Sidious. And Maul was his apprentice before Dooku ever left the Jedi order. Remember Dooku was a very old man by the time he left the Jedi and came to serve Sidious.

Yep there was no reasoning behind the name of the guy who helped wipe out the Jedi. Palpatine just pulled it out of his arse.

Ah, I'd forgot about her. She was never an apprentice to Siduous as far as I know. I think Vader trained her in the Dark Side.

This is something else the movies could not convey that the books did. In the Book Revenge of the Sith, it's the Force itself that tells Sidious what to name to give Anakin as his new apprentice.

It it assumed that Luke can be more powerful than Vador?

Was that simply because Vador lost a shite ton of ability with his injuries?

I always thought Anakin being the chosen one made him assumed to be potentially the most powerful ever.

and this line:

quote:

So much going on here. First of all, we see Ren using the Force—or at least that’s what it looks like. Second, he’s using it for some kind of torture against Poe Dameron. We’ve never seen it used like that. Third, it fades into a massive, red destruction. Remember the red lens flare above? Something’s blowing up.

So, is Ren torturing Poe with a memory? A vision of something that could happen if he doesn’t talk? Or is it something that happens in the film, that’s been cleverly cut into this?

By default, I would say yes, especially later when he is a grand master Jedi and training students in his own academy.

Had Anakin stayed the course and been in full control of his emotions, then he would have been unquestionably the most powerful Jedi and/or Sith in the Universe - by FAR! He was, after all, fathered by the force.

Anakin was the most powerful force user in his prime. But he never really fully realized his potential before Obi Wan all but killed him on Mustifar. After this, he was only a shell of his former self and his ability to use the Force while still massively strong, was lessened.

I wonder if that will still be around in the new story line.

Would be nice to see it integrated somehow, even if in passing.

Not following the whole Sidious clone - Mara Jade - Ben Kenobi etc etc, but just "filler" knowing he's doing it.
