because early on they did talk about how Joe was a shitty writer.

Makes 100% sense now why the writing was so horrible.

If that is the route they take (which I'm still not ready to give them that much credit), it would put an entirely different spin on the first season.

We are to believe Ryan gets away with murdering a bound and defenseless individual? Regardless of the depravity of this man's actions there is no way in hell this would go unscrutinized.

Horrible show. Makes Revolution look like Masterpiece Theater.

Of all the horrible crap we have to suspend belief for, this is probably the worst

The only rational explanation is that everything that has happened thus far is the plot of Joe's crappy book.

Season 2 finale ends with Joe in the electric chair, typing away on his story?

Who was bound and defenseless? When the report gets written up he will have been killed while resisting arrest or trying to escape. The only way it becomes an issue is if someone makes it an issue. He killed a federal agent so no one in the FBI will make a deal out of it. He belonged to a cult of serial killers so no political organization would touch this. If he has any family they are either in the cult and wouldn't come forward or they have disowned him. This actually isn't that hard to believe, they just didn't make any effort to inform the audience that the matter would be covered up.

and the ballistic report would be written up how? He got away, and started running......right into the barrel of a registered weapon, leading with his forehead?

How would that be explained?

"no seriously, dude...he was running away"

-then why does the entry and exit wound appear as though he was shot at point blank range?....IN THE FOREHEAD?

"...........umm....."

It wouldn't need to be. On top of being part of a cult tied to mass murders, the guy killed a federal agent, blind eyes will be turned.

Ryan's protege did seem unhappy. Leading one to believe he had to write the falsified incident report

Next season we will find out that this entire season was in fact Joe's novel and that he is still alive and on death row. None of this season really actually happened. This will explain the absurdity of the events of season one.

This would be an epic troll job by the writers.

They should have had him say "Did you really have to shoot him between the eyes? Do you know how much paper work that's going to take?!" Yet another problem with an easy solution that they chose not to use. Maybe the "this is all a bad book" speculation is right.

‘Following’ Producer Assesses Season One, and Looks Ahead

As to how Williamson plans to bring the show back for a second season without making the FBI appear incompetent, he says he is very aware that that is an issue and he does have a solution for that, but he won’t reveal what it is.

I remember during the Boston manhunt people posting that if the FBI didn't catch the guy they would forgive The Following for its absurdity.

This is probably the worst show I have ever watched, most of you seem to agree, and yet we are all still watching. IMO this makes less sense than the season finale!

It would instantaneously make this show good imo.

I akin this show to Battlefield Earth. It is so bad that you can't stop watching. I exempt Bacon from these opinions of the show. I think he is pretty good.

BTW: Did anyone notice how all of a sudden the pace maker isn't a factor anymore?

Following’ Producer Assesses Season One, and Looks Ahead

quote:

If Joe should somehow survive — he could have switched his dental records before he perished in the flames — Purefoy tells XfinityTV that what he would like to see for his character is “revenge, more revenge, dripping revenge. There are so many places you can go with these characters. There are so many stories to tell with these people. We have exhausted only a few of his followers on the Eastern Seaboard. He has been a very big presence on the Internet. We could go anywhere.”

quote:

He does point out that had the FBI been successful in catching Joe Carroll, there would have been no series. So, instead, he tried to include little wins along the way, or at least, to make Ryan Hardy the smartest man in the room.

And, in Episode 3, for example, the FBI used methods not unlike those used in Boston to track down the marathon terrorists.

“We found Rick Kester [Michael Drayer] with surveillance cameras, with everybody’s iPhones. We used the same devices,” Williamson said. “It is just that Joe Carroll is always elusive, which makes the FBI seem behind the ball. But we are going to solve it.”

This is fricking brilliant
