I'm pretty sure that this is Ben Schmidt's story, not Lou, peggy, hanzee, charlie, or ed's.
How many true stories contain factual inaccuracies or straight up embellishments? All of them worth hearing about.
The ufo didn't ruin the season or the series. It showed us how crazy peggy is, that something like that hovering over the motel was just like a snowstorm in that part of the world to her. It was an unexplained distraction that allowed sweet Lou to gain an advantage over bear. And like it has been pointed out, there were reported sightings everywhere in the northern Midwest back then.

EGB, this wasn't directed at you, just everyone bitching about the ufo

But Rye saw the ufo and was then hit by the car and later killed. He was the only one present (i guess other than peggy in her car but it wasnt clear that she saw the ufo then)
How would Ben Schmidt's perspective have Rye seeing the UFO?

I don't think this show is from any one person's perspective. Too many things happening that are only known to characters that didn't survive the season. Only Bear knew that he'd killed his niece, and he's gone now.

He knows about peggy hitting rye, I think he just filled in the details.
And I do think there is more than one account being told, but not one person in this thread (that I have seen) has mentioned Schmidt, even though we know that he is one of the few survivors of the season. I honestly think one of the survivors, my money is on Schmidt, filled in a few holes with ufos in his telling of the tale. A Ufo is an unexplained event, just like the survivor(s) can't find an explanation for why rye was in the road, or why bear stopped choking lou.

My favorite line of the season is Solverson telling Schmidt, "You're a shite cop. You know that, right?"

Anyone who thinks that the UFO stuff has ruined the show is crazy. It doesn't take away from the acting, character development, music and all other things that have made it great. It would be like saying Rocky isn't a great movie because a nobody would never get a chance at a title fight out of the blue . Even if it isn't tied up neatly in last episode it won't deminish the fact that it's still one of best shows on tv.

If Bruce Campbell's awesome cartoon of a Ronald Reagan could'n't throw this show off the rails, nothing can.
After this season, they could end it with The Captain and Tenille dropping an H-Bomb on Fargo and I'd go with it.

Okay, I still love the show - the acting, production, musical score, etc... is probably unmatched with a majority of the garbage on regular and pay-TV. Beating a dead horse, but the "UFO" stuff happened at critical scenes and was witnessed by multiple characters. In reality, most reported UFO sightings are at random so it takes away somewhat from the "reality" aspect. Being that the series was renewed, I just hope this factor in the season doesn't hurt upcoming viewership/ratings which would result in cancellation, etc...
JMO, but based from the mixed thoughts about this on here and from other people I know that watch this, I just hate to have them blemish the thing with something that probably may not have been necessary - we'll see where it goes, if anywhere.
But, regardless, I'll be tuning in next week - going to be an hour and a half episode, so more for us to enjoy. If the UFO stuff is left as is, I'll still be tuning in next season - but with less expectations.
Hell, I liked the movie Magnolia - gave it a few watches despite the raining frogs mentioned here earlier (similar characteristics of the series - great acting, production) . But, that was one movie. To try to keep a "network" series going with scenes like that and with the premise they have is another thing...

And you need a bigger sack if you're embarassed by a tv show.
Sorry my opinions or statements have you concerned about my "sack". I would think/hope there would be better concerns for you, but, each to his own...

Right, I think it's told from several different perspectives. But this wouldn't factor into people's theories about Lou being the only survivor to see the UFO.

You don't know that. It's likely his accomplice knew about it.

If anyone hears of an FX marathon of Season 2 please post it here so we can tape it.
My DVR has failed me on this so I've had to watch episodes On Demand and on the FX website.
I'd love to get them all down to binge on some snow vacation or weekend laid out sick.

I think the guy from Buffalo was there when bear picked up the Neice. Can't remember if he died in Sioux Falls now.

I remember him running away
Not saying he's alive but I do remember he ran when somebody shouted "they're cops"

Charter On Demand rotates them off after 4-6 weeks. Sucks, I know.
