We have threads on this.
Here's one from weeks ago. Not much there. LINK
The actors who play Lori and CC (her pimp) did a great job in this last season.
CC is such a crafty, unpredictable, violent POS. And he has that pimp swagger down. I was surprised to learn that the actor (Gary Carr) is a Brit who played the jazz singer on Downton Abbey.
Lori's scene in the diner near the end of the final episode is her best. Her reaction to getting some big news is an odd mixture of immense sadness and simultaneous joy/relief that she communicates without saying a word.
Ralph Macchio does a pretty good job of playing a shitty cop. A bit different from his usual roles.
Did they ever explain why Candy became a hooker? She had a kid and normal parents. I don't recall her having any drug addiction history, and she doesn't have apparent mental issues. So what made her decide to hit the stroll and stay there so long?
Gary Carr is listed as the star in a Buddy Bolden movie shot partially in New Orleans. Ian McShane is also in it. Looks like it is still in post-production. I will watch and hope it is better than the Miles Davis movie that Don Cheadle made.

I think it's more of a result of her domineering father. Seems like she ended up in that path to spite him and also earn for herself. But yeah, they've never explicitly said how she ended up in the profession.
I've enjoyed the show, the first half of season two dragged a little but had a strong finish.

I watched both seasons. Not sure if I will watch a third. Not one likeable character in the entire show except the black cop.

What I like about it is that it is simultaneously a spiritual sequel and prequel to The Wire.
Much of The Wire was based on source material from the 1970s, although the fictional setting was set 20 to 25 years later (for example, the actor who played the Deacon was the real life basis for Avon Barksdale. The older associate of Omar, Donnie, was portrayed by the real life stick up man upon whom Omar was largely based, etc.)
And, now we see a lot of the "kids" from The Wire all grown up. I'm sure Simon wanted Dominic West for the Ralph Macchio character, but it was probably too small a part for him to consider. But seeing The Wire alums:
Gilliard (Dee)
Glover (Slim Charles)
Bauer (Frank Sobotka)
Akinnagbe (Partlow)
Kostroff (Levy)
Method Man (Cheese)
...is a treat every episode.
One of my favorite inside jokes is that Rodney (Method Man) seems highly agitated at Leon's (Glover) return from prison for killing Reggie Love after a relatively short sentence.
Wire fans will recall that Glover's character Slim Charles killed Method Man's character Cheese at the end of the series in a very similar scene.

I loved season 1. That's a real TV show right there.
I cancelled HBO so didn't know season 2 started! Thanks

Season 3 will be the last. And I bet the black cop takes a central role as they jump ahead and enter the cleanup phase.
David Simon has said "the final season we’ve planned for is ‘85/’86, which is when Times Square came crashing down around their heads. That would conclude it."

Why do you need to “like “ the characters?
You aren’t eating dinner with them

Yes. I am through all episodes and it is one of HBOs better series.
My favorite part is it really does a good job of historical fiction. That was NYC back in the 70s and 80s, then it all changed.
If you have not watched it yet, go for it. Warning though, you have to be Ok seeing 2 guys kiss.

Wrapped up Season 2 earlier this week. Great show!
CC played his part well- was glad to see him get killed. Rodney robbing the pharmacy lol.
Larry becoming the BBC port star after changing his role.
Love seeing The Wire characters. Dorothy/Ashley death kinda like Omar's. Just another body
