Wow, what an incredible number. I know these films has its fans, but I didn't know it was this popular. Another huge win for Warner Bros.

quote:

SUNDAY AM: Well, no one say this coming, but what an awesome jolt to what was expected to be a sleepy September: The Conjuring: Last Rites had all the blessings from its fans this weekend, who made the film the third highest opening ever for a horror movie both domestic at $83M and worldwide at $187M. The original global outlook was $80M on Last Rites!

Last Rites ranks as the eighth No 1 opening for Warners this year, and also their seventh movie to open north of $40M; I’m told that’s a record nobody else has done. Warner Bros is now ranked No. 1 in domestic, overseas and global marketshare with $1.73B stateside, $2B international and $3.77B worldwide.

Saw it this weekend and it kinda shocked me how full the theater was.

The whole movie is a mess, though. It's like they had 5 ideas on where to go and used all of them, never quite figuring out what the actual story should be. The 'backstory' which was very prominent in the first film especially, got reduced to a 30 second conversation.

Meanwhile, all of Wan's expertise in suspense building is completely gone now. Long drawn-out scenes like the Valak scene from the second one (which was masterful) have been replaced by shite like a ping pong tournament (not joking).

I did enjoy it more than the last one though... Either way, they haven't been good since Wan stopped directing them, but they've gotten so bad they're not even fun anymore.

Agree with that. Wan is very talented with horror. It's hard to replace that

Saw it tonight, also with a packed theater. It’s without question the worst of the 4 conjuring films. Long stretches of just boring, nothing happening. With a long run time too. The action that finally comes is just ok. I would recommend not going to see this thing in a theater. Digital release, preferably free, only.

“The Conjuring” TV series currently in development at HBO Max has taken a big step forward.

Variety has learned exclusively from sources that Nancy Won has boarded the project to serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. In addition, both Peter Cameron and Cameron Squires are attached to write on the series.

The news comes just days after “The Conjuring: Last Rites” premiered in theaters. The fourth film in “The Conjuring” franchise has gone over like gangbusters at the box office, grossing over $194 million worldwide so far.

I wonder if this will be more of a Monster of the Week or serialized/anthology seasons like American Horror Story?

Saw it and I liked it but as mentioned it was kinda all over the place with Ed and loraine's daughter and the actual house they were investigating. I loved all of the conjuring movies but as mentioned this one was probably my least favorite.

What a boring movie, all over the place. Main daughter is not a good actress. Too bad because the first 2 movies were fantastic.
