quote:I've seen this and its saving grace is that it's part documentary, showing footage of the mutineers' actual descendants on the Pitcairn Islands. It was Flynn's first role, so don't expect your usual swashbuckler.
There was yet another version, made on a microbudget in Australia a few years before the Gable & starring a very young Errol Flynn as Christian. This one is only for Flynn completists.

A couple other good old time sailing the high seas movies are:
"Down To the Sea in Ships" Richard Widmark, Lionel Barrymore and a very young Dean Stockwell
"Moby Dick" Gregory Peck and Richard Basehart have the main roles.
Both films in black and white.
Edited to add this:
The actor who played the main harpooner, Queequeg was a 6 ft. 7 in. tall actor born in the Austro-Hungarian Empire whose full name was:
Fredrich Anton Maria Hubertus Bonifacius Graf von Ledebur-Wicheln. Now that's a mouthful.

Hopkins really deserved an Oscar for his performance. Vangelis's soundtrack was also fantastic and added to the tension.
