The best free film editing software - DaVinci Resolve 15

I'm not sure where this belongs, as it's technically about tech (see what I did there?). But as I'm talking about film editing, I thought I'd post it here on the Movie/TV Board rather than the Tech Board.
Anyways...if you're into film editing like I am, I have recently stumbled upon a piece of free editing software that will absolutely change the game. The program is called DaVinci Resolve 15, and it was released on the market late last year. It combines the best of Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro X into a single tool that many say mainstream Hollywood editors will soon be using.
There's a free version of the program as well as a $299 version of the program. The only difference? The purchase version allows you to collaborate online on projects with different people, and it includes a few more transitional effects. Beyond that...they're the same program.
I'm starting to learn how to use it and can't wait to really dive into the nitty gritty of it all. It's not just the best free film editing software on the market, it just might be the best film editing software on the market. PERIOD.

I've been wanting to direct my own music videos, may come in useful

Sounds too good to be true. I have Adobe Premiere CS6, so I shouldn't have any need to look at this, but H.264 output from CS6 sucks (I have no idea if it was improved in later versions). I'm gonna have to look into this. If it's as good as advertised, it would be worth switching since I'm stuck on an old version of Adobe.

I though Resolve was always free, but with some caveats. If you want the full, full version, you had to pay.
Not sure, haven't needed a NLE for awhile, but when I used resolve 12 a few years ago, that was the case.
Resolve may take a bit getting used to, but I always thought it was probably the best NLE out there besides Premiere.
Resolve can't be too bad... It's made by Blackmagic, who I think makes the best affordable, high quality video cameras on the market. The Ursa mini Pro is about as close as you can get to an Alexa with a budget. I love their whole approach to the business.

This is the main reason I'm interested. However, I just put in the time on a feature to learn Premier, so I'm not excited about the idea of learning an all new editing system. If I did, however, Resolve would be one for the color grading aspect of it.
Alex Ferrari of Indie Film Hustle swears by Resolve and has done a number of podcasts on it. You're not him, are you? :)
