Also
The Lost Boys
Planes, Trains and Automobiles
Spaceballs
Raising Arizona
Summer School
Wow, what a year for movies.
I think Angel Heart came out that year as well!
I thought it was great, but it didn’t do that well in the box office. Probably a bit too dark, and the Lisa Bonet sex scene was scandalous for that time.
Remember she was the wholesome daughter on the Cosby Show. Turns out she was a very freaky girl, the kind you don’t take home to mother.

One sequel, one adaptation of a TV series, one adaptation of a book by a respected author, the rest were original screenplays. It is a different world now.
That’s a pretty solid top ten even for popcorn flicks.

Wow! Never would have guessed it. Lots of big hits that year.

Fox got pidgenholed as a light comedic actor
It's always been a joke around LA that when you run into a movie star how much smaller and meeker they seem in person. Guys like Tom Cruise, Swayze, Redford, etc are little guys that project a leading man persona on screen.
Fox was the opposite. He always came across as a baby faced little kid. He just couldn't project that leading man persona outside of something like Back to the Future.

Um, I mean, it's still scandalous based on what we learn at the end of the movie

He was so adorable on Curb when he got mad.

Most definitely!
I was pointing out that news of the Bonet sex scene was enough to keep many away from the theater without having seen the movie or really knowing anything about it.
I’m trying to think of a modern day parallel situation. Maybe if Emma Watson played a slutty vixen in an X Rated sex scene in a movie that came out between Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince!
Obviously, the movie has a big mystery reveal at the end so I don’t want to spoil it for those who haven’t seen it!
