I just watched it the other night. I wonder if the T-800 could have defeated the T-1000 if it never fell into the molten lava?

$300 stolen from an ATM for a couple of Jr High kids may not go as far as it used to, but it's still could be a day's worth of fun.

If there were still such things are arcades.

One on one I don’t think so, I could be mistaken but I think Arnold even says its highly unlikely at some point in the movie. The T-1000 was an advanced prototype

It would depend on the environment and what weapons they had such as weapons from the future if possible.

The T-1000 was a more advanced infiltrator but against another Terminator, it would need more than what it had in it's inventory to take one down.

Other than the T-1000, hallway fight, canal chase, mental institution escape, miles dyson scenes, freeway chase, and final showdown at the foundry what is actually good about this movie

George Lucas to Steven Spielberg to James Camerson was a pretty good run of action adventure directors.

The T-800 couldn’t bring weapons from the future though and you are correct about the T-1000 and his inventory but he was also capable of using any hardware available. It took Sarah pumping slugs from the Spas then Arnold came over the top with with a 40mm round from the M79

But that didn't even kill him. It was him falling into the lava/molten metal that did it. Had he had time, he would've just calmly melded back together and continued to kick arse.

I watched it earlier this week for the first time since I was a kid, and I didn't think it held up that well really. There was another thread talking about this and I mentioned that the SFX definitely look terrible now (as you mentioned), but outside of that they acting was pretty bad, the Terminator was too nice, etc. I remember thinking the movie was both awesome and terrifying when I was younger, but watching it now I felt disappointed. T2 is by far the superior movie in every way IMO.

The prototype was never mass produced by skynet as they had no way of controlling them. So they were created to kill humans and not destroy other terminators. The same with other advanced series in the later movies. That is why the T-800 series were the most successful against the resistance as they were easier to take control of.

Both series couldn't bring future weapons with them but I would bet that if both had plasma weapons and they used them on each other, the T-800 would sustain damage better than the T-1000.
