Randomly stumbled across this movie on Prime last night. Had never heard of this film and went in with zero expectations but man, this was a good watch. I guess I had some expectations because it stars Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain, but it was made way back in 2011. Shannon is such an impressive actor in everything. Anyone else seen this gem?

It's a great movie. Give Shotgun Stories a watch as well.

Yeah watched it years ago, great psychological slow-burn...is he crazy or not crazy?

To those who haven't seen it...it's a character movie, so don't expect a giant plot.

Shea Whigham is one of the most underrated actors out there, great in everything he's in

The ending always made me think he wasn’t crazy.

Great movie.

Well yeah, but you have 118 minutes to ponder the question.

So weird, I just happened to watch this yesterday as well. And I had never heard of it either. It's about as slow a burn as you can imagine. I like these kind of movies, but this one didn't really grab me, perhaps because the payoff itself wasn't very interesting, unlike other similar movies I can think of.

Same director as Mud, I believe, also directed Midnight Special and Shotgun Stories... Jeff Nichols from Little Rock. He's basically never made a bad movie.

The scene where he flips out on the townspeople was Oscar worthy.

Thought this quote from Nichols kinda perfectly summed up my reaction to the ending. I watched the movie by myself but after the ending my first thought was, “I wish someone else had seen this to ask what they thought immediately afterwards.”

"I had a very strict idea of what the end of Take Shelter was. I know exactly what happens, and it’s fascinating to see people respond to it in their own ways. The beautiful part of storytelling is that you’re not just telling people a story, they’re also telling you something about themselves too through their reactions. In that situation you’re in a conversation with your audience. I really can’t think of a more rewarding or fulfilling result for something you’ve written. It’s active, kinetic, and really humbling."

Yeah, the movie was good, his performance was the reason to watch. He's one of the best.

Too slow of a movie and way too ambiguous of an ending.
