Romeo was pretty pathetic trying to argue his fake necklace was a “big move”.

I don’t remember him framing it as a big move, but the question was what was his best strategic move. Maybe it was biggest strategic move. Either way, it was literally the only strategic thing he did all season so it was the only answer he could give. I don’t think he really believed it was a great move.

It had potential to be strategic, but with Jonathan and Lindsay both seemingly vulnerable no one was sending a vote Romeo's way.

Now maybe if Maryanne's idol was exposed beforehand and there were potentially 4 in play... then maybe.

Spleen, LSUBoo, I’m thinking about applying for a season. Any ideas on how to get on there?

You're a middle aged straight white man right?

Either get really lucky or come at it with a really good sob story angle.

There is probably only one spot in our demographic per season.

I liked it mostly because these people were not horrible. There wasn't constant drama, which drives me nuts. They mostly seemed to like each other. Most of them actually played the game as well. Omar, Hai, and Drai all went home because they were playing the game pretty hard.

Maryanne mentioned a few times early on that she was letting everyone think she was clueless. She did wear her heart on her sleeve and could certainly be annoying about that, but she figured out how to dial it down when she needed to.

I loved Mike, but his answers at the final tribal council were really lacking. His social game was great, but he just couldn't put together a case. Romeo was the goat. Lindsey and Jonathan pretty much only won challenges. They really didn't have a good social game at all and I don't think they'd have been able to make a good argument if they were at final TC.

Maryanne may not be the all time best winner, but like a previous poster, I believe the jury votes and the winner is the winner. They've outplayed and outlasted and that's all that matters. Maryanne definitely came on strong at the end.

Totally agree with all of this.

Great season.

Jonathan and Lindsey were both all time comp beasts.

Some fun strategic players like Omar, Hai, and Drea, and some people that were just kind of fun to watch grow like Mike and Rox and even a kind of fun not too over the top villain type in Tori.

Agree Maryanne not the best winner but did definitely seem to make a big leap at the end, so can’t really say I’m surprised given that I didn’t think Mike would be great in front of the jury.

Glad Jonathan went out at fire because I have a feeling he would have bombed hard at jury and seeing an all time comp beast lose to Maryanne would have been tougher than seeing Mike fumble it away.

Looking forward to seeing several of these survivors again.

frick if I know how best to apply. I’d imagine they get millions of applications and it seems lately they choose people with a compelling life story. I e thought about applying but my life story is pretty boring.

Yeah, and I am betting Jonathan was recruited for the show. At the final tribal he was asking Omar if they normally read the votes on the island.

Mike was the only middle aged white man in the cast. I guess he had the super fan angle, but that was it.

Yeah, I may have some things that would help but the chances are so remote but will never know unless I try.

Well, to be fair, they usually don’t so it wasn’t a bad question.

I actually think I have a dynamic they’re looking for - a straight while male living in a very conservative state and suburb that identifies as liberal.

Maybe I should apply.

Yeah, but he asked it when Jeff said, "I'll go get the votes." not when Jeff said they were going to read them. He clearly hadn't watched much Survivor.

How much did Hai help in Maryanne winning? He really over sold the whole hidden immunity idol as some huge play while he was in the jury. I think his over sell of that helped persuade some jurors into thinking it was a this huge move in the game when it really wasn't all that big of a deal.

I bet that Omar sold them on Maryanne more than anyone back at the Ponderosa. He gave her all the credit for his blindside even though Mike and Jonathan (and even Romeo) were just as involved.

Given the history of Survivor and hidden immunity idols, it was a pretty big move to keep it a secret all the way to the final tribal council. I don’t think that has ever been done. And she had a defined strategy on holding Mike to his word to give her his immunity idol, while also having a plan in the event he didn’t keep his word. Not all big moves are orchestrated blind sides or moves tat change the course of the overall game. Her move was one of self preservation and she had almost all of her bases covered to get her to the final.

100% agree with everything you said. It feels weird to agree with an Alabama fan.

Yul and Tony (his first season) both won with an idol still in their pocket, but neither was still a secret.

And I feel like every season in this thread we talk about how dumb it is to tell people you have one. But now someone not telling anyone, and using her secret to her advantage, is somehow not a big move.

It was a good move, but I still don't see it as a game changing move, mostly because it happened so late. She wasn't even a target when Mike played his idol on her.

Still, had she let it slip, maybe she does get targeted sooner instead of Hai or Omar in order to flush it out.
