VOR and Slo Flo is that enough positive post to keep yal from bashing it until yal see it? Don't think I've ever seen so many people knock a movie before even watching it.

I haven't bashed it but I saw the commercial for the first time over the weekend and it looks terrible.

So far out of three Sucker Punch threads, you and dualed are the only two posters to talk negatively about it.

people who "want to believe" went to go see it first weekend, and, for the most part, they got exactly what they wanted

they're very vocal on here.

the "haters" won't be right now, b/c it's hard for people to say it's a piece of shite without wasting $10 and 2 hours of life.

and it didn't even make $20M this weekend, so there aren't THAT many who "want to believe"

The movie was enjoyable. I wouldn't say it was a pile of shite but I can see why others did not like it. However some of the criticism of this movie is just silly.

I saw it yesterday. I reallly was looking forward to it for awhile but I can't lie it just wasn't that good for a mindless fun, eyecandy show.

It was ok and it looked great but the fantasy warrior world scenes were hack as shite. To me, the best movies like this come up with some interesting twists on what we've seen. I liked the burlesque dreamworld the best actually. I didn't feel the need for the mental hospital either. Just make the burlesque the real world and then you have the warrior dream world.

Not horrible at all but it was mediocre. Also the theater was half empty on a Sunday of the opening weekend. I don't know how much it ended up pulling in but that can't be good.

Every time I have been to a theater on Sunday, it was half empty no matter what movie.

With that said, I don't think Suckerpunch was ever going to be a box office smash.

I go to the movies to be entertained, nothing more, and I got that big time with this movie.

That's awesome. I'm not bashing anyone that loved it more than I did. Just posting about why I was dissapointed.

Btw, obviously all the girls were red hot but Sweetpea was slammin. I looked her up and her name is Abbie Cornish.

god really? you are miserable. even after i told you my impression watching it after having **NO** expectations whatsoever since i didn't know what it was going in.

cant admit u might be wrong here huh? just keep focusing on the numbers. serenity also bombed at the box office but that hardly qualifies it as a 'bad' movie.

This review excerpt from reelviews.net sums up my feelings on this movie:

quote:

The characters aren't merely poorly developed; they are undeveloped. They are cartoons garbed in fetishistic attire whose exploits are dull. The action, despite being posed as fast and furious, is devoid of purpose. There's no sense of suspense. Even when one of the heroines is in danger, there's no emotional response. We don't care about these people. Not only are they not real, but they're buried two levels deep in fantasy and nightmares. It's as if Snyder saw Inception while drunk or high and immediately sat down to write Sucker Punch.

and in my review:

hot chick with a pistol and samauri sword fighting 50ft tall japanese warriors!

HOT CHICKS WITH M4s and nightvision scopes shooting orcs and slitting baby dragon throats!!

british lancaster fighter bombers having mid-air duels with firebreathing dragons and wiping out armies of orcs in the castle on strafing runs!!

orcs launching themselves onto the wing of a flying jet from catapults!

flying robots attacking gas-mask-wearing-zombie-nazis in WW1 trenches!

50 cal guns on a bell & howell helicopter shooting the shite out of the cars on a jet-train so chicks with machine guns can drop into it and fight some crazy-arse robot guards!

guess we saw different movies

I'm going see this movie just because Slowflopro says it probably sucks. And even if I don't like I will come on here and say it was amazing

And its all bs that happens inside of the head of one (or more of does it matter is all doesn't really happen in any way shape or form anyway) of the characters. Not to mention, why exactly does a 60's mental patient have a fantasy reality constructed from images from pop culture of the last decade or two? The visuals look pretty sweet but if you can't use those visuals in a narrative that makes sense then great you have made a 2 hour trailer that fanboys will love.

As for the hot woman, pretty much any film has attractive women in it and that, thus, isn't a good enough reason to see any particular movie (especially one that is pg-13 ).

This movie was exactly what I expected from Zack Snyder...awesome visuals with a crappy story. However, since I have one foot firmly on both sides of the fence of "fanboy" and "elitist," I had a good time watching it. If 300 was too homoerotic fantasy for you, this was the exact opposite of that...male fantasy overload.

Do I think Snyder had an idea for four completely over the top action scenes and one "ping" sound effect, and shoe horned a "story" around it? Yeah. Was I actually kinda bored by the time we got to the last action sequence? Yeah. But the scene right after that brought me back into it. Would this movie have been better with an R rating? Definitely.

I don't think it was a good movie, but if you're a male with a pulse, I don't see how you couldn't have had some fun seeing it. The last movie I saw in the theater was Blue Valentine (great movie BTW), so this was some fun escapist fare.

Sounds like a combination of Dicaprio's last couple of films.

She danced to a Bjork song. It was 50-60's era mixed with pop culture throughout the whole movie. So the fantasy could have mixed cultures too.

When did the narrative not make sense? Or was the culture mix what you were talking about? The main knock has been the simple plot, now it's too simple but yet it doesn't make sense.

I have a hard time thinking of an legit action movie that had that many hot chicks. Kill Bill was a better movie but the chicks weren't as hot. Charlies Angels I guess had some hot chicks but the movies sucked. I'd say that's an ok reason to go see a movie

But your probably right, a lot of people will thoroughly enjoy this movie because of that very reason alone. I thought it was just good overall.
