I liked Spartacus season 1 better than got simply because I had already read the books.

I made this same decision 6 months ago. I went with Spartacus first. Wildly addictive and entertaining. Still haven't gotten to GoT.
But yeah the series suffers from the actor dying. The new guy tries but it isn't the same.
