It's a shame that the "recent" cartoons have been better than many of the movies.

I've watched both. I really enjoyed both.
But Clone Wars is the better of the two IMO.

I think Clone Wars was more even throughout its run. There are some awful filler episodes in Rebels, but the big, highlight episodes are exceptional.

I liked clone wars better but Rebels is good - particularly seasons 2 and 3.
So i just caught up on rebels - how do they release episodes? Is there a reason this next one is so far away?

Actually between 3 and Rogue 1. The main character's ship was spotted in the final battle in R1, so they are supposed to end Rebels there.

You have to realize that Rebels has characters that are in the Canon EU but no one you really know outside of cameos by some big ones.
Clone Wars is fantastic because it fills in the blanks of the movies while Rebels runs behind the scenes.

Not only that, she is being paved over the PA in one of the hangar scenes, and Chopper also zooms by in one of those scenes.

Filoni didn't necessarily say it would end at Rogue One.
It may run concurrent to the original trilogy, as Lothal is in the Outer Rim.
