Gods and Generals was very disappointing in hindsight. I watched the movie before reading the book it was based on, but after reading that novel I remember getting really angry at the filmmakers.
Had the director, Ronald F. Maxwell, made Gods and Generals into a TV miniseries like he did with Gettysburg, the film would have worked MUCH better and would have been more faithful to the source material.

It got trashed by critics because it didn’t treat the Confederates like evil demons.
