Just watched. Came out yesterday I believe on Amazon prime. Absolute 10 out of 10. This movie is as realistic as they come. Riz Ahmed is phenomenal and should get some attention from the Academy. Do yourself a favor and watch this movie ASAP

My hearing is damaged, that shite really sucks.

Being real,..sometimes my girlfriend will be in the same room with me, and get annoyed that I didn't hear something she said.

Not only that, I hear the same recordings differently depending on the day. Different frequencies can make or break a mix for me too, so thats very frustrating.

Thought it was fantastic. A+ performance from Ahmed.

*Spoiler*

Absolutely heart wrenching, and felt like the film actually punished him for choosing the implants. He lost his friend/mentor and in the end lost the ability to be with his gf (the entire reason he got the implants anyway). He wasn’t properly made aware of what the implants actually were, or maybe he didn’t listen because he didn’t want to know. She didn’t want the life back that they used to have, and he couldn’t provide it anyway if she did. She had promised to wait for him, but she found a different version of herself while he was gone that she preferred. He’s left with nothing but perhaps a lesson learned

Yeah, id be going crazy too if my hearing deteriorated overnight like that.

If I were him, I'd have used earplugs with noise canceling headphones on over my ears after the initial doctor's reveal.

The entire premise of the film was his realization at the end that the implants were a mistake.

I think his realization was that shitty implants were a mistake. I know multiple people who have them and they are crystal clear. His were jacked up.

I thought the movie was great.

But I would have loved if you only ever could hear what he was hearing. That would have thrown you into more. And would have been very interesting if it turned into a silent film essentially until he turns on the implants. Would have made their quality even more jarring.

SPOILERS

I think the whole point was finding “stillness” as his mentor mentioned. Life is all about being able to find those moments.

When he takes the implants out and stares at the trees, I think it’s implied he’s at peace despite having gone through so much.
