symbolism is a bunch of bullshite, especially when you're dealing with a half-real, half-cartoon, sci fi movie

Even if this movie gives everyone an orgasm while watching it, I'm convinced you will still bitch and moan about the film.

progress/humanity is the "bad guy"

Not exactly, its just being being arrogant about others feelings and priorities. You seem to dismiss anything that observes the negative aspects of humanity, when in reality they make some of the best films. And judging from the previews, Cameron seems to be looking at humanity from a more positive light than they did in District 9, when pretty much all of the humans are huge assholes.

omg he may have a merry band of sidekicks?!?!?!?!

Besides maybe a few serial killers and a few supervillains, how many bad guys don't have "a merry band of sidekicks"? Usually they aren't too powerful without them.

because the chosen one is nothing more than a character, not an entire plot line

No it is. Chosen One story lines usually follow a very basic formula. Usually an evil overlord is ruling, and then a last hope finally comes that has the potential to defeat him. Despite the fact that he is clearly overmatched, he is trained by a mentor(s) and is eventually able to face the overlord to destroy him, usually through cleverness, resourcefulness, and his enemies own arrogance than through raw power.

has avatar been in pre-production since about 1950?

Name me a film that wasn't influenced by something else. Influences do not equal rip-offs, because then pretty much every film in history would be a rip-off of something.

Cameron isn't claiming that the story is going to be the thing that changes cinema, but the presentation of the story will be with that new 3-D engine he's using.

i call it like it is. if the movie sucks, i'll say it sucks. odds are i don't even watch it, b/c i know this won't be worth it

you don't pay attention well

it's just an old theme that has been done countless times before, and done with more efficiency and better relevancy

there are many "chosen one" scenarios, and your description leaves out the archetype (jesus)

that's a big hole to argue that it is a theme and not a character within many themes

good thing he used so much CGI it looks like an animated movie below pixar's standards, visually

too much CGI is a bad thing

when will directors learn?

One can say that about every movie ever made.

Satan can certainly serve as the evil overlord in Christ's story, and Jesus doesn't defeat him through raw power either.

And there were many "chosen one" tales before Christ.

All I have to say is go watch a regular movie at CitiPlace or Cinemark.

Next, proceed to the nearest Rave Theater and watch it in Digital and/or 3D Digtal.

Its like the difference between Sega Genesis and a PS3
