Season 1 sucked and that's probably why I stopped there before.
Season 2 is dramatically better as the show veers from mostly cringe humor to just occasional crigeworthy moments.
Benihana Xmas episode is the show on fire.

I didn't like Michael after my first watch through the show (too many cringeworthy scenes), but I've come to love his character on rewatches.

See, I liked the cringe humor....it's what separated it from your typical US sitcom. As the seasons went on, I still enjoyed the show, but it was starting to lose its roots a bit too much IMO.
