So I decided to give The Wire a chance… holy shite it’s awesome

I’m a few episodes away from finishing season 1 and honestly, if I could, I would watch the show all day long
Omar is awesome
Whatever is going on with Bubbz is interesting..
McNulty using his fricking kids to track Stringer Bell in the market, and losing them
Avon is a very realistic, crazy villain in the show. Dude has swagger for days but can flip a switch on someone with the quickness

There is a lot to like about season 2 but Ziggy kills any fun i have watching those episodes

I'm in the same boat as you. Started it this week after years of a mutual friend telling me to watch it. The first couple episodes were okay as I got to know the characters. The last three episodes of season 1 really picked up and I'm enjoying it.
I've heard seasons 2 and 5 are not that good, which I guess I'll find out for myself. When 2/5 seasons are okay, I can't see how this show will be in my GOAT contention, but I'll decide that when the series is done.
Right now The Sopranos is my #1 all-time, and I can't see The Wire supplanting it.

I just finished it after someone recommended it after I watched Bosch. It did not disappoint. Enjoy the ride. Season 5 was my least favorite, but still better than most. Very well done.

2 and to a lesser extent 5 are the weaker seasons but it is relative. Even 2 is excellent TV when not judged against the rest of the series.

I disagree about S2, its not weak at all. Its just the change of scenery that fricks with people.

Actually just finished my first watch of season 1 last night.
I really enjoyed it. I like how nothing is really dumbed down for the audience and it fleshes out the characters, even though I had a hard time keeping track of some of them.

Hated it the first time or two watching it all the way through ( I didn't watch it until it was done completely) but upon a few rewatches I really see how crucial it is for the overall story and theme. Iggy's, or izzy (whatever), character is super annoying, which is the point but its unbelievable at some times lol.
