How about a the way the a flare gun can burn underwater and be so hot as to melt ice fast enough that someone completely out of breath wouldn't drown?
Wow.

right on, doesn't react or even mention her again. Bond may have done that with evil girls in the past, but not someone who's begging to be saved.
You need to go back and watch The Man with the Golden Gun. A similar thing happens to the character played by Maud Adams. Bond was more attached to her than the chick who bought it in Skyfall, too.

I thought it was a great movie.
The end was a great setup. Really cool to see the old Universal Exports office.
I will say that even though I liked Skyfall, I'm about done with the "Bond Begins" angle. It'd be nice to see Quantum come back since we never saw that storyline wrapped up.

He tried to save Severine, but he missed the shot glass. Silva killed her. There was nothing he could do at that point, but the mission was to capture Silva who was a threat to Queen and Country and M (all high on Bond's priorities.) Whether right or wrong, Bond used Severine to get to Silva (and to pass the time in between). He's a ruthless bastard at times; that's the character.

Well, I saw Skyfall (rip-off camcorded quality) and I have to admit, I am disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy it, but my expectations were too damn high. I was masturbating just to the thought of it. I just don't think it comes anywhere near Casino Royale, Goldfinger, or From Russia with Love.
While it was a good performance, I was particularly disappointed in Javier Bardem. I was expecting something more on the lines of his performance in "No Country for Old Men", in that he would go down as not only a classic Bond villain, but an all-time classic villain. Yeah, he's a great Bond villain, but he's not close to being one of cinema's all time great villains. I just don't understand why anyone would follow this guy when there is absolutely no profit in it. Did he tell the first line that went up to that house that they would almost certainly be killed by Bond and that he was just sending them there to tire him out and deplete his ammo? I do like him, and I'm sure I would have loved him more if people didn't hype him up so much, but I felt let down in the film since he was merely on screen for like 15 minutes.
I do plan on seeing it in the theater next month if I can find it, but my first viewing left me craving more. Yeah, its certainly one of the better Bond films and sure as hell better than Quantum of Solace, but its not incredible like I was expecting.

EDIT: I have to say though, I really loved Q in this film. Real nice way to reboot him. Hopefully that actor sticks around even after Daniel Craig has left the franchise. And yeah, when the Aston Martin from Goldfinger showed up, I definitely had an absolute nerdgasm.

Last night, the scene in the Shanghai Tower was great. Very well shot. Great lighting, music, and choreography.
Oh yeah, aside from Bond's first encounter with Bardem, I was extremely impressed with that scene. Very well shot, lit, and great tension.

Wasn't a perfect film but man is it fun, beautifully shot, and Bardem was very good. Plus you learn where Bond comes from. Bloody entertaining!
You kinda learn that in Goldeneye though. I don't feel like I learned more about 007 as a character. Maybe I just knew too much about him already.

I will just say that I will be shocked if the guy who made The Review & Critique of the Phantom Mance doesn't do one for this garbage.
Those guys reviewed the film if you're curious, and they're shockingly ignorant of the Bond series: LINK

I mean there wasn't even really a bond girl, which is kind of a main component to bond movies...
Actually there was, and granted she was completely unconventional for the franchise, but the Bond girl in this is M. She was the clear deuteragonist. The story was about her, so I don't mind this deviation so much.

The fine arse girl that gets whacked by Silva served NO PURPOSE but as a vehicle to get Bond to Silva. Terrible
I can name 10 Bond films that do that shite.

Amazing movie.
I have no idea where the detractors are coming from.

This is just one particular mission. Silva was running his own Nega-MI6 and presumably making money. One of his pitches to Bond was to join him and pick his own missions.

My thoughts are they were scared to put him on there too much or he would outshine everyone else. There was tons of potential for back story, etc. They didn't want him to be loved more than Bond which wouldn't have been hard. I didn't like it. Maybe it is a good Bond flick but it isn't a good overall flick.

You know everything you need to know about Silva. He was once a great MI6 agent on par with James Bond. Both were heavily influenced/molded by M. Both were put in an expendable position by M. Both made a choice in the way they handled M's "betrayal". Silva went wrong/defected; Bond stayed loyal to Queen and Country.

All I am saying is you and the film's creators spent equal time getting us to buy into that.
