Did anyone not think the ending scene of Dinesh singing Pied Piper at karaoke was a perfect ending to that episode

Yes. And I love Gilfoyle's character. It has nothing to do with F&G.

I've never even seen freaks and geeks but i think Gilfoyle is hysterical. He hates people but keeps making friends just to mess with Dinesh.

That's his character, he's dry as a bone and he plays his role well. I get that. But that doesn't mean we can't criticize the characer. He does have some good one liners and I love his interactions wiht dinesh, but I mean honestly is he a good actor?

The acting is excellent. I've even warmed up to Middleditch as I've paid more attention to it. The comic timing among the principal cast (the males, anyway) is perfect and one of the keys to the shows appeal. Everyone stays in his lane, everyone delivers the line and reactions on cue. I mean, Miller stood out earlier - and to be fair to the rest of them - his character is easier to do, particularly for him. Jared has had the slowest burn, but really came on late in the first season.

Only the girls don't really shine, but to be completely fair to them, they don't get as many opportunities. But they also don't crush it like other low volume characters like Peter, Russ or Gavin, for example.

I wonder how much of a pass gilfoyle gets just because he was bill on freaks and geeks. I feel like people's sentimentality is clouding their opinion sometimes.

It's not like it's some insane accusation.

He played a similar character on Party Down.

I thought Christopher Evan Welch really stood out in season 1. He was responsible for most of my laughs, by far, early on. Sure wish he was still around. :(

If you had an actual articulated criticism that would be one thing. There hasn't been an explanation of this "bad acting." He isn't expressive enough? He isn't supposed to be expressive. If that's your criticism then you are criticizing the actor for playing the character how he is supposed to be played. If you don't like the character then that is an entirely different criticism than the acting being bad.

Yes, he's a good actor. As Ace mentioned comedic acting is all about timing and when you're with a decent sized cast it's also all about chemistry and interaction. Every guy plays his role and certain characters compliment each other very well (Gilfoyle and Dinesh for example).

That posting is getting shite because it seems like a baseless criticism.

I have to disagree. Laurie, especially after the last episode has been every bit as solid as the secondary male characters.

I've never seen a minute of Freaks and Geeks, but Gilfoyle is my favorite guy on Silicon Valley. That dude is perfect for that part.

I notice that they always end each episode with song over the credits so terrible that it comes full circle to brilliance. No easy tight rope walk there.
