not disagreeing but since Jason was "in" #1, the rest weren't "totally" disregarded as the title says

its splitting hairs yes but Jason was "established as a character" in one while Halloween 3 had zero mention of anything anywhere to the original halloween

Mortal Kombat 2 doesn't win this thread (it had some of the same characters), but it reference dick all from 1 in addition to sucking quite the pair of balls.

Maybe that's why I don't remember it since they took a "break" from Myers.

I hate movies like that...they're not even sequels but hustlers of the movies name...buying the title for its good will/built-in audience.

I am going to take a different route on this one. I will say movies like The Sandlot 2 (and I heard The Hangover 2 was the same idea). I know this sounds crazy, but they copied the first one so much that it was like they disregarded the original in terms of the audience because you were watching the same thing again although you thought there would be at least a slightly different storyline.

Halloween 3 is the clear winner here. Gets alot of hate, but seeing it around Halloween over the years I've actually grown to kinda like it

FATF: Tokyo drift
I also think batman somewhat falls in this category. Most of the batman movies are pretty stand alone and yes the characters are recurring but pretty much everything from the past is never mentioned

It felt like a spin-off of the original. We'll completely change the story and not pay to have the stars of the original but include one lesser character.

It's the After Mash of movies.

I would totally agree with that. All the original Batman's were stand alone movies. The only one that had any real continuity was Batman & Robin becase Robin came back.

Good call, I've never really thought of this.
