My brother and I watched Canibal holocaust when we were in high school and it freaked the hell out of me. I thought that shite was real.

I've made it very clear my opinion on The Witch, fwiw.

I mean, you could have listed it later in the list of movies, but it was the first one. LOL

You know what...I challenge you to watch Halloween: Season of the Witch without associating it with the Halloween series.
It's actually a VERY solid 80s horror film if watched as a stand alone movie. If they had released that movie without the "Halloween" name tied to it, Season of the Witch would've been a more celebrated horror film.
Sure, is the robot reveal at the end very cheesy? Yes! No question.
However, it's filmed very well with great lighting and an incredible soundtrack that creates a very dark mood and tone. When you watch Season of the Witch you feel like you're watching something ominous unfold. It's very effective.
The biggest mistake the producers made was associating Season of the Witch with the Halloween franchise.

To be fair, I haven't seen Don't Breathe. I'm holding out hope that this movie is the first movie in years to somewhat scare me, but I'm not counting on it.
It won't because you're walking in there with the mindset of "I bet you can't scare me!"
You'll remove yourself from the fantasy of it, you'll keep your mind focused on not being tricked. You're too conscious of it, so it won't work.
You were more open as a kid, hence why movies are far more scary. As an adult, you either have to give up on the idea that something will scare you, and learn to just accept the experience, or it won't be that effective. Go into a movie with wonder, not a challenge to be scared.

I started Baskin last night on Netflix. Watched about half of it and it held my interest enough to continue on this evening with it.

After a quick scan of this thread, I didn't see Sinister listed. It had been quite some time since a movie creeped me out, but this one sure in the hell did.

I see you frickers posted the scene I was talking about, lol....no worries for me, I'd already seen the movie
I will say that, just looking at a GIF, it doesn't seem scary at all...but when actually watching the movie, that scene was set up perfectly, and the director seemed to deliberately lull you in the moments before it happens, which made it so effective.
Underrated flick IMO...and if the studio didn't interfere with the ending, it could've been a legit contender on "best of" lists.
ETA: Just found out that Shout Factory is releasing this on BluRay next month...I don't know if the director's cut will be part of the package, but an early presser suggested that efforts were being made to include it, which would be awesome.

Just like Season of the Witch could've been GOAT if the studio hadn't attached "Halloween" to it and pissed off the Halloween fanboys...

shite! It did go over my head.
But it's not nearly as quotable as the final scene:
[Happy Happy Halloween...Silver Shamrock is playing on the television set as children dressed in Silver Shamrock masks arrive]
"You've got to turn it off! Stop it! Stop it! Turn if off! Please turn it off! Stop it! Stop it! Stop it! STOP IIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTT!!!!!"
The end.
