No.

Psychological horror and some well-done paranormal or supernatural - stuff worked for me.
Like:
The Others
Babadook
The Ring
Open Water
The Orphanage
Triangle
The Changeling
Event Horizon
Stir of Echoes
A Tale of Two Sisters
Pulse
The Awakening
Slasher, torture, gore, stalker, home-invasion, pyscho-killers, vampire, werewolf, monsters, zombies or half-comedy horror Evil Dead, Drag Me to Hell stuff...never worked for me.

I still like the Ring and the Witch both creeped me out but were not scary necessarily. I thought It Follows was interesting but got lame after about 40 minutes. Babadook wasn't great but I liked it okay. I also liked the first Insidious fairly well. Again, not scary but creeped me out in the way I hoped it would.
Still I prefer psychological horror. Like to me Mulholland Dr and Lost Highway are almost horror films in the sense that I like horror. Jumpy scares are something I liked as a kid but find just too predictable now.
Also horror films of days gone by put more effort into the acting and the story, rather than cheap effects or cgi. But if people like modern horror more, good for tm.

So do I.
That's why The Shining, Jacob's Ladder, and In The Mouth of Madness, and Funny Games are four of my top 10 favorite horror movies.

I love all of those except I have not seen Funny Games. I will have to check it out some time.

Read my mind, that movie Funny Games is rather disturbing! Ciao Bella

Othello,
Do yourself a favor and watch Funny Games soon.

Ha, yes that is it. I watched with a group of people at my house. They were totally quiet staring at the screen. I was like "WTF"? One of the least scary, scary movies I have ever seen.

Yeah, more overhyped than Tennessee football. That music would have worked in a lot of other scary movies tho.

Is this another "The Witch is not scary." thread?

Yup.

They've never 'scared' me. Always watched them for fun.
The only movie that's ever got under my skin is the original Texas Chainsaw. I always feel like a need a shower after watching it.

I think horror movies are fun.
Then a film like Funny Games comes around...

Funny Games is no joke. I went into it excited but had no idea what to expect.
When it ended, I locked the doors and peaked outside a few times just to make sure I was safe.

Funny Games was more frustrating than scary. These home invasions movie don't make sense to me. In reality, the homeowners would just shoot them.

Some invasion movies don't make sense, but Funny Games was well done and believable.

I mean, you could have listed it later in the list of movies, but it was the first one
