Poltergeist 3 scared me as a kid. The whole thing with the mirrors just freaked me out. And the old evil guy was just creepy.

Yep. This was a very underrated "frick up a kids dreams" scene.

It's funny, I'd seen Friday movies.

But Nightmare on Elm Street was the first horror movie I found legitimately scary. That wasn't a thriller or some drama.

Jason never scared us.

The scary movies everyone talked about in the 80's on the playground were basically:

The Hitcher
The Changeling
Hellraiser
The Thing
Nightmare on Elm Street
Piranha
Pet Cemetary
Phantasm II

Out of that list, The Changeling remains a GREAT movie with George C. Scott...and scary if you like ghost stories.

Trilogy of Terror

That voodoo doll fricked me up as a kid. I was always thinking that bastard was in our house after seeing that.

The Exorcist.

That night, after seeing it, I was asleep in bed. The bed started shaking. I woke up and realized my bed was shaking and was suddenly scared. Slowly, in the dim light that spilled in from under door to my room, I looked down toward the end of the bed and there was a dark figure, with beady eyes and long hair staring straight at me. Then it began licking it's balls and I knew it was my sister's poodle that had got in my room and was scratching it's ear with it's hind leg.

Salem's Lot did a number on me too. This scene and the one in the jail cell.

The 2 that scared me the most though were The Shining and The Exorcist.
