cocomo I know slater and jesse always had an on/off thing going on but in that same episode wiht the obstacle course after it's over slater asks lisa to the 4th of july dance. I'm sure it was just as friends and not romantic but I always thought that was strange. Why were slater/jesse not together at this time period?

I've talked about that in a thread on here before. Just straight up disrespectful to Screech to do that right in front of him.

They seemed to rely on relationships for plot purposes for the most part, especially since the episodes were aired out of order a lot of times.
But at the beach, they weren't together though. But they referenced their tumultuous relationship here and there ("Are you two fighting again?"..."It's what we do best."). shite like that.
Remember in the last beach episode, Slater has a secret admirer (Cynthia...played by Denise Richards) and he ends up taking her to the end of the summer party thing. So he and Jessie definitely weren't together. But then back in school, they are. I guess she'll always be his mama.

He does say his two favorite things were wrestling and Jessie Spano.
