Saturn 3 (1980)

This forgotten sci-fi/horror film has always intrigued me, and I revisit it from time to time. It's one of those movies that is "almost good."
Farrah Fawcett looks amazing. It may be her best look, with the simple, straight hair. She shows a lot of skin, and is even topless. Of course, we also have to endure a lot of skin from Kirk Douglas.
The first half of the movie is pretty interesting. Keitel murders someone and steals the robot Hector. He then goes to Saturn 3 to build the robot, but what is the plan? It's not really clear.
I also like the love triangle. Douglas as the older, more protective figure, while Keitel is the strange man from earth trying to steal Fawcett away. I always chuckle at "You have a beautiful body... may I use it?" And "You named it? On earth, dogs are for food."
The movie become a snore once the robot goes berserk. They were going for "Alien, but with a robot", which could have worked, but there is absolutely no tension in the chase scenes. Other that one creepy moment with a severed head, the robot is laughably unthreatening. It's slow, clunky, and you can't help but think of the guy just off camera with the remote control guiding it.
Another problem is Saturn 3 only has a crew of 2, so there is no body count to build the suspense. The last half of the film is a lot of running, hiding, and whispering.
Any thoughts or recollections of this film? It's streaming on Prime.

Stanley Donen and Martin Amis are both legit, but "interesting" combo.

This was on cable a lot back in my younger days, the only thing I remember about the movie was Farrah was topless. I may need to watch it again, been over 30 years since I have seen it.

The only scene I remember from this movie (other than Fawcett's tits) was when she got some debris in her eye, and Keitel has the robot remove it.

This movie is etched into my childhood. A poster mentioned that it's an Alien ripoff, but it also has an interesting self-sacrifice/chess theme that predates WarGames.

Decent premise and solid start, but as I recall, the movie went all manner of sideways as the story unfolded. Could have one of those true better, lower tier movies.

The full movie is on YouTube LINK
I'd forgotten about the part in the beginning where the guy gets sucked into outer space, but on the way out he's chopped to pieces by some wire. Happens in the first 5 minutes.
