The amount of "House N****" comments I've heard in theaters confirms this.

I've read the script... he's definitely a character that will be disliked. He's been Calvin's (Leonardo DiCaprio) personal slave since Calvin was a kid, and they have a unique bond. Stephen basically calls the shots and has privileges that the other slaves don't have.

Well you're in for a surprise (Kinda not a spoiler)
Tarantino changed the ending and other parts in the script. So your movie going experience wont be completely ruined by reading the script early.

I was actually hoping that he'd change the ending; that was the one part that I didn't really care for.
I just hope the new ending is superior to the original ending.

According to Jamie Foxx it is. We'll find out next month though.

Honest question...why read the script before the release of the movie?

This.
I skipped over posts bc I didn't want spoilers in a movie I've been excited about for a year now. In a thread that is prior to the movie being released

What I will add is...
The current cut of the movie is supposedly THREE HOURS LONG! But may be trimmed by 20 mins or so by movie release...

If its good and by I director I like, honestly, I like a long movie. I've been in the theatre plenty of times not wanting a movie to end. Though I only go 4-5 times a year. Watch a bazillion on Netflix.

frick. That is not something I want to watch.

I guess I just didn't have the patience to wait
They had some really great stuff in the script, though. Really cool storytelling by Tarantino.

Gold Derby's Tom O'Neil reports an insider has relayed information that Waltz will be competing against Jamie Foxx, the titular star of the film, for Best Actor:
quote:
"Christoph Waltz's performance is so amazing in 'Django Unchained' that it towers over the whole movie," an insider tells Gold Derby about his role as a German ex-dentist-turned-bounty-hunter in Quentin Tarantino's upcoming spaghetti western. "We're moving him up to the lead Oscar race" where he'll compete against costar Jamie Foxx, who portrays the title character, a freed slave who teams up with Waltz to rescue his enslaved wife (Kerry Washington).

Review of the movie. Not so spoilerish
quote:
----
"Leo is BIG. But in this context and this world, it works really well and his boyishness acts as a good mask for the underlying evil inherent in the character. He's ticky and actory, but in a way that I wasn't used to seeing him. And the movie is pretty controversial and offensive (there's a couple scenes involving him that are pretty hard to watch), so there's the whole 'brave' factor involved. Which, I guess, could work against him as well."
"Samuel L. Jackson is in BY FAR his best role in a long while. And he's not phoning it in."
Foxx is fine, I'm told, "and doesn't detract from the film, but he doesn't really add to it either. He plays it in a very modern way. QT's dialogue doesn't really sound natural coming out of him. But that's okay because it's a riff on the whole Man With No Name, so he doesn't have too may monologues, as the others do." The source says that, in his/her opinion, Waltz "kinda carries" Foxx.
The film "is way overlong and of course not everything works," the source goes on, "but it's wildly entertaining and full of legitimately badass moments, especially for a western fan. The pulpy/genre elements don't at all serve to view the controversial stuff with ironic detachment, as I thought they did in 'Inglorious Basterds' (and I know I'm in the minority on that). Rather, they elevate those aspects with heart in only the way QT really can. More along the lines of 'Kill Bill.' It's his own world mixed with some pretty brutal and *beep* up stuff...and I don't think the 'N' word has ever been used so much in a film...but it works, and is full of rousing moments."
-----
Good to know there are some strong performances from the main players (Foxx I'm not surprised about, as you may have read my recent post regarding his dull line deliveries and whatnot.) Ultimately, I hope the film is tightened up a bit for final cut, I know I'm probably alone in saying that, but this is the second person to say this already and it's something I think all QT's movies are severely in need of - again another aspect I wrote about extensively in a recent post. That's all for now, folks!
EDIT: "The pulpy/genre elements don't at all serve to view the controversial stuff with ironic detachment, as I thought they did in 'Inglorious Basterds'" What does that mean, anyone??
