Watched this last night and thought it was pretty good. Has Aubrey Plaza, Jake Johnson (Jurassic World, Tag, etc), and Mark Duplass (The League). Ending was a bit of a surprise but overall it was funny and an easy watch.

I remember the magazine ad that the movie is based on. It floated around the internet in the early 2000s and for years it was a mystery as to who the author was, and the context behind it.

The movie's Wikipedia entry tells who wrote the ad and why.

Has Aubrey Plaza...
Good enough for me.
Really a good flick. And anyone can write stuff on Wiki, so the mystery remains.

Not without sources.

The September/October 1997 issue of Backwoods Home Magazine featured a curious classified ad. It read:
“WANTED: Somebody to go back in time with me. This is not a joke. P.O. Box 322, Oakview, CA 93022. You’ll get paid after we get back. Must bring your own weapons. Safety not guaranteed. I have only done this once before.”
Thirteen years later, BHM Senior Editor John Silveira revealed the ad was indeed a joke, one he made under deadline to fill space in an undersold classified section. But by that point, the ad had become the stuff of Internet legend, sparking copycats, memes, and thousands of letters to Silveira’s anonymous P.O. Box. Some of the writers were skeptical, others were curious, a few were desperate (apparently death row inmates have a lot to go back in time and fix). But all of them were disappointed when the anonymous man who placed the ad didn’t write back — because he didn’t exist.

My wife said it was stupid. Which meant I would probably like it.
I did.
I did.

I thought it was good. I'd also recommend The One I Love if you haven't seen it.

You're missing my point, entirely.
In the movie the mystery remains. I'm not talking about the origins of the idea FOR the movie.

I enjoyed the movie and w/o spoilers I appreciated that they didn't puss out on the ending.

I remember watching this not really knowing what to expect but I liked it a lot. Good soundtrack too.

Enjoyed that immensely. Thanks.

This. I was expecting that the build up to Kenneth's character was going to end in the obvious, but was so pleased with the ending.

Really enjoyable, unique movie.

Watched this last night due to this thread. Good movie. Definately not the ending I expected.

I watched this film yesterday based on your suggestion. I enjoyed it thoroughly; thanks a bunch. Ms. Plaza is adorable in this movie. I believe she's surpassed Zooey Deschanel as the premiere indie hot chick. Liz McHollis was impressive, too. She looked like a good time in the sack and was a hell of a cook, to boot.

The ending was a cop-out.
Would've been funnier if the protagonist was actually the real life writer of the ad...and reveals it was a joke all along and the story is for his magazine on Plaza and their cohorts about guillable people.

You should be a script writer.
