However, the news of Benioff and Weiss developing their own Star Wars film series – on the heels of Johnson’s trilogy – has caused many fans to wonder when Lucasfilm will entrust a white woman, woman of color, or man of color with a Star Wars film. Now, rumors indicate the studio may already have.

Franklin Leonard, founder of The Black List, tweeted he has heard rumors that Lucasfilm hired “multiple women and people of color to write and direct Star Wars films,” but the studio kept it a secret. The Tracking Board‘s Jeff Sneider backed up the rumors, confirming he’d heard the same, but did not indicate which writers and directors had been tapped. Sneider additionally speculates the reason Lucasfilm hasn’t made the hirings public is because the studio is unsure whether the projects will move forward.

Sneider posits that two people Disney may have discreetly hired to work in a galaxy far, far away are filmmakers the studio has worked with before and who are currently promoting major releases: Black Panther helmer/co-writer Ryan Coogler and A Wrinkle in Time director Ava DuVerna

Nothing against women, but just go ahead and kill Star Wars. I mean it's heading in that direction and before long the following it did have is not going to be there anymore.

this is something that maybe i'll never understand

if you are a member of this demographic, wouldn't you hop that people of your demographic are getting top positions because they are the best people for the job? Not just because they are a member of a minority demographic?

What ever happened to being judged by the content of one's character rather than the color of their skin?

Why not judge potential developers by their talent rather than their skin color or sex?

Is it so important to them to just have a token member of their demographic be in these positions that they're okay with the possibility that they're only in these positions BECAUSE they're a minority and not because they are most qualified?

They had that aborigines New Zealand cat direct Thor Ragnarok and he did a fantastic job without all of the SJW BS.

A woman directed Wonder Woman and it was great while not preaching to us as an audience.

It is possible but sadly you can tell which movie is virtue signaling the most by the constant praise of doing so on RT. I didn’t want to believe it before I watched The Last Jedi but as soon as I left the theater I knew that the signs were there in the early reviews. Constant praise of inclusion and something new without commenting on the fractured plot, lack of character development due to a bloated cast, and needless side plot that was horrible and only there to virtue signal.

Rumors? I sincerely hope dudes didn't write TLJ.

Disney's plan all along to shift the franchise and cover all bases. That's always been Disney's business model - reach as many people sell as much toys as possible.

Seems to be so. I keep seeing videos pop up on YouTube from TLJ apologists that think the movie was the greatest thing ever. Some of them are saying that it's time for the franchise to move on from the older fan base to the younger, more diverse audience. I mean, Disney can do this since they own the property. But, they shouldn't then be surprised when the repeat viewings don't happen and the associated toys just collect dust on toy isles.

TLJ is just oozing with self hatred. We're sorry about the cool hot shot ladies man pilot, sorry. look, he is sorry too. Sorry about capitalism, yup, our bad guys. Sorry about being white, look all the bad guys and people in the casino are white...i'm so, so, sooooo sorry.

Preach brother preach.

As for women or people of color writing and directing a Star Wars movie... I don't care if they have six sex organs and glow in the dark. Can they make a good movie? If so then by all means trot 'em on out there and let them take a shot at it.

While it wasn't the single greatest movie to ever hit the theaters I would have much rather the lady the directed Wonder Woman have been at the helm for TLJ then the white guy that we got. Or the woman who did "Oh Dark Thirty".

Do people not realize that Star Wars has always just been campy fun?

The story and acting have always been subpar.

You guys romanticize star wars like it's some great work of art.

This forced diversity is killing Star Wars. Hire some one based on their skills instead of their gender or race. If the best director with the best ideas and vision is a black guy...great! IDGAF, just dont make any more pieces of shite like TLJ!
