eta: not sure why I'm getting downvoted for this. Its true. They completely changed Chani's story arch from the books.
You are right, but I think for the screen it makes sense to have the arc of Chani likely leading the "traditional" Fremen vs what Paul turns the main lot of them into during the jihad, and the turmoil of Paul the emperor vs Paul the Fremen who deep down just wants to go live in the desert with Chani.
