I just gotta say wow, great documentary. I knew he was fricked up in the early 80’s, but I didn’t realize it was that bad.
They have some great iconic interviews in this documentary.

Yeah, he went down the drug path real hard back then, culminating with setting himself on fire when doing drugs.
He came out of it about as good as one could expect to given the nature and severity of his injuries.
He was one funny SOB back then but had some pretty serious health issues with suffering heart attacks that required surgery and then being diagnosed with MS in the mid 80's but it was his heart that killed him.
Yep, a lot of people tried to help him with his demons, but he was his own man and did his own thing. Addiction is something the person undergoing it has to really want to change to beat it.

I can remember listening to Red Foxx's "Blue Albums" back in the 60's, long before he made real headway on TV.
He was Richard Pryor before there was a Richard Pryor and Lawanda Page who played Aunt Esther on "Sanford And Son" was a downright dirty old gal with her comedy and not that Holy Roller she played on the show.
Foxx died reportedly owing over $3.6 million dollars in taxes to the IRS.

Aunt Esther was a celebrity guest at a company picnic at a plant I worked at back in the 90's. Woman was absolutely hilarious.
