Richard Belzer, known to most for some two decades as Det. John Munch on “Homicide” and “Law and Order SVU,” and several other series, has passed. But I also remember his days as a stand-up, before he transformed into an actor. Condolences to his family, friends and fans.

After Al Pacino and Robert Loggia, he was the most famous person to appear in Scarface.
He was great as Munch. I can’t remember him in The Wire.

It's a cameo. He's in the bar in an episode of the last season.

Bill Maher going to be pissed, he’s always talking about how he still owes him 1200 for weed from his college days

The character of Munch is based on a real Baltimore police officer named Jay Landsman, as is the character of Jay Landsman in The Wire (played by Delaney Williams). The real Jay Landman was cast in The Wire as Dennis Mello (who was Bunny's deputy and later acting commander when Bunny was relieved over Hamsterdam).

His last words were allegedly, "frick you, mother fricker."

Damn, I just watched Night Shift two days ago. What a great movie, Michael Keaton’s first film! So sad to see Belzer go!
